How can you keep up with changes in style, usage, and grammar when most of the answers aren't in any dictionary or major style guide? If the people in your organization make different calls, your publications and Web site will lack the consistency your professional image requires. This class will help you simplify the editorial process by addressing issues such as nouns used as verbs ("E-mail me"), e-jargon and acronyms, and informal usages that seem to break the rules (like vs. such as; more than vs. over). Topics also include:
- Why style mattersand how it differs from grammar
- How style decisions make a difference to the reader
- Major contemporary editorial and style considerationswhat's changing?
- Establishing and gaining support for your proprietary style
- Expert advice on electronic style templates and macros
- Participants receive E-What? A Guide to the Quirks of New Media Style and Usage or equivalent.
NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring two copies of their in-house style guide or style sheet. Otherwise, bring the reference you use most often.
