Once a manuscript has been assessed and accepted for publication, the real work begins. This course takes up where Substantive Editing I leaves off: completing the substantive revision of the entire document. Within a project-oriented approach, you will
- Use a multiple-pass technique to move smoothly from assessment through substantive editing and copyediting phases
- Edit from the reader’s perspective as well as the writer’s
- Set the focus of a document from the opening paragraph
- Direct the reader to the information he or she needs
- Set and maintain the appropriate tone
- Recognize and correct poor structure and proportion
- Choose appropriate formatting techniques
