Visual Design courses are the core foundations for any desktop publishing, web graphic or multimedia design. Whether having prior art experience or not, these classes give participants the ability to use a broader creative base in their graphic work. Each class uses slide lecture, exercises, and critiques to help the students understand and utilize the elements of design in more effective compositions and visual communication.

Visual Design I ![]()
The Visual Design I training class is for people who work with in Graphic design, Desktop Publishing and Multimedia, without any formal design experience. Having prior art experience or not, this class will give students the ability to utilize a broader creative base in their graphics and composition. Using Modern and Contemporary Art as a guide the class will focus on the element of line, balance and composition. Another component utilizes the design principles of scale, value, form and counterform in typography and how this applies to creating cohesive designs that look great.
Visual Design II
The Visual Design II training class emphasizes the principles of texture and the diverse approaches to the element of value. You will learn about color theory and explore monochromatic, analogous and complementary combinations from Itten’s color wheel. Utilizing texture from a creative angle to the use of typographic texture and image will round out this course of study.
Visual Design III
The Visual Design III focuses on the compositional elements of line, plane and form combined with neutral tones. You will learn about Bauhaus and Constructivist theory as we explore compositional tension and movement created by design. We will also explore subjective timbre and objective principles including Itten’s Contrasts of color and how these effect space. Typographic message, Visual and Verbal are also included in this course.
Visual Design IV
Visual Design IV is the last of the series of courses and is intended for students who have taken the other courses or have experience in the design field. Using as a base, the works of Malevich and Escher we will study the attributes of shape in positive and negative space, organic and geometric differences, metamorphosis and symbolism. Syntax, space, ABA form and grids are the typographic components of this course.
